Punch's advice to those about to marry
(too old to reply)

The words "Advice to those about to marry - don't" are confidently
attributed to Punch's Almanac of 1845.

However I want to check whether this is a one-liner, or whether it us
set in a context. There seems to be no copy of this particular Almanac
online.

Does anybody have an image of the page?

Not an image, but this 1896 snippet says it was preceded by the line
"Worthy of Attention".

Another description with a bit more detail in this 1996 book:

A parody of an ad, apparently.

Thanks, Donna. That has given me a focus on the source - "Comic
Almanac" for 1845..

Not I; but my impression (based on a mention in MEU that I can't find
at the moment) is that it was a two-liner: "Advice..." was the title
of the essay, and the body of it, with witty brevity, was "Don't".

Cf movie critic Roger Ebert's two-letter review of the movie "Isn't It
