The owl of Thebes

I have never before come across this quote, but it
seems to be genuine? Anybody know anything about its
origins?

"Freedom is a state much prized within the realm of
civilized society. It is a bond wherewith the savage
man may charm the outward hatchments of his soul, and
soothe the troubled breast into a magnitude of quiet.
It is most precious as a blessed balm, the saviour of
princes, the harbinger of happiness, yea, the very
stuff and pith of all we hold most dear. What frees
the prisoner in his lonely cell, chained within the
bondage of rude walls, far from the owl of Thebes?
What fires and stirs the woodcock in his springe or
wakes the drowsy apricot betides? What goddess doth
the storm toss'd mariner offer her most tempestuous
prayers to? Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!"

Quoted here surprisingly:

If that is Monty Python (and I’m not in a context where I wish to check), I
can’t see any non-Python quotes regarding the owl of Thebes on Yandex or on
books.google.com. Where did you get the impression it was genuine?

Maybe AI is producing semi-believable quotes? (that is after
all what it does best). Does Ilona Bray not exist?

"What wakes the drowsy apricot" is worthy of a quote :)

Regular Google turns up a hit for Owl of Thebes,
https://en.uncyclopedia.co/wiki/Owl_of_Thebes

and, inter alia, the article links the Owl to free bowel movements.

Wiki says about uncyclopedia,
Uncyclopedia is the name of several forks of satirical online
encyclopedias that parody Wikipedia. Its logo, a hollow "puzzle
potato", parodies Wikipedia's globe puzzle logo,[2] and it styles
itself as "the content-free encyclopedia", parodying Wikipedia's
slogan of "the free encyclopedia" and likely as a play the fact
that Wikipedia is described as a "free-content" encyclopedia.
Founded in 2005[3] as an English-language wiki, the project spans
more than 75 languages as well as several subprojects parodying
other wikis. Uncyclopedia's name is a portmanteau of the prefix un-
and the word encyclopedia.[4][5]
